Yankton Sioux Tribe moving headquarters

The Yankton Sioux Tribe is moving its headquarters from Marty to Wagner.

Flash flooding forced officials from the tribal hall in Marty last summer. The tribe is getting a $1 million grant for a new hall from the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, which operates Mystic Lake Casino in Prior Lake, Minn.

The Yankton Press & Dakotan says the tribe will use the grant to build a temporary headquarters in Wagner.

Construction should be done by mid-February. Vice chairwoman Karen Archambeau says a permanent tribal headquarters in Wagner will be built in a year or two.

The tribal hall functions as an administrative building, housing tribal programs and services.
