Bids sought for $52M North Dakota Heritage Center expansion

Bismarck, North Dakota (AP) September 2010

Supporters of a major expansion of the North Dakota Heritage Center are advertising for construction bids on the project.

The $52 million expansion includes a new theater and cafe, display galleries and a new glass entrance on the building’s east side.

The project needed at least $6 million in private funds before construction bids could go out. The goal was reached last week when Whiting Petroleum Corp. of Denver donated $350,000.

The state Historical Society of North Dakota’s foundation plans to announce donations from Whiting and other energy companies on Wednesday.

The project’s budget is counting on at least $12 million from outside sources. The Legislature last year approved spending almost $40 million on the expansion.
