Oatman, Marcus John Sr.: Walking On

Kamiah, Idaho

Funeral services were held for MARCUS JOHN OATMAN, SR, 85. Interment followed at Kamiah Indian Cemetery. Marcus was born March 26, 1926, in Kamiah. He passed away March 24, 2012, with family by his side. Marcus served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1944 to 1946.  He went to school until the eighth grade. He received an honorary high school diploma from Kamiah High School on Veterans Day. Mr. Oatman worked at mills in Weippe, Orofino, PFI in Kamiah, Potlatch of Lewiston and Grangeville. After he retired from the Grangeville mill, he went to work for the Nez Perce Tribe in the Fisheries Department. He enjoyed traveling, hunting, camping, root digging, huckleberry picking, trapping, going to the mountains, and fishing. (Ta’c Tito’oqan News, April 2012)
