Stewart, Sonya Begay: Walking On

St. Michaels, Arizona

Funeral services were held for SONYA BEGAY STEWART, 70, on February 13, at the LDS Church. Interment followed in Red Lake, Arizona. Sonya was born October 1, 1941, in Ganado, Arizona. She passed away February 10, 2012, in Fort Defiance.
   
Sonya is a 1959 graduate of Window Rock High School. She was employed with the Navajo Nation government and Navajo Area Indian Health Service, where she retired. She served as a Boy Scout den mother, Relief Society counselor/teacher, and Sunday School teacher. She was a devoted member of the Republican Party. She enjoyed 5K walks, culinary arts, traveling, genealogy, and was a devoted fan of her grandchildren’s sports activities. (Navajo Times, February 16, 2012)
