Rentschler, John J.: WWII Veteran Walks On

Toppenish, Washington

Graveside military services were held for JOHN J. RENTSCHLER, 89, on July 18, at the Elmwood Cemetery at Toppenish. John was born April 14, 1922, in Toppenish. He passed away July 13, 2011, in Toppenish.
   
John was raised and educated in Toppenish and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as an aviation mechanic. He operated a sheep ranch, which he later turned into a cattle ranch for many years. He owned and operated a sawmill on the Yakama Reservation. Mr. Rentschler was an enrolled member of the Yakama Nation. He was a 50-year member of the Toppenish Eagles. He enjoyed fishing, guns and motorcycles. He will be remembered as an inventor of sorts for his ability to tinker with things and make them into something useful. (Yakama Nation Review, July 22, 2011)
