Oakgrove, Minnie Lucille Murray: Walking On

Red Lake, Minnesota March 2011

Funeral services were held for MINNIE LUCILLE MURRAY OAKGROVE, 63, on December 23, 2010, at the Sports Complex in Naytahwaush, Minnesota. Interment followed at the Samuel Memorial Cemetery in Naytahwaush. Minnie was born June 2, 1947, in Twin Lakes, Minnesota. She passed away December 18, 2010, at the Red Lake Indian PHS Hospital.

Minnie was raised and educated in the Twin Lakes/Naytahwaush area until moving to Minneapolis. She lived there and graduated from Central High School until moving to Oakland, California, to further her education. She moved back to Minneapolis and married. She continued her education by getting an AA degree from the University of Minnesota. She worked various jobs at Honeywell, Control Data, The People Center, JTPA, JOM (Johnson O’Malley) and the Ni-bin summer school. She was very involved in her children’s education. She was a past member of the Minneapolis school board and various parent committees. Then in the early 1990s, she moved to Red Lake and worked at Northwest Technical College as a minority advisor until she passed away. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, going to powwows and the casino, playing bingo, fishing and shopping.
