Smith, Gary James

MINNESOTA, Bemidji – Traditional funeral services were held for GARY JAMES SMITH, JR, 33, on October 9, 2010, at the Little Rock Community Center in Red Lake, Minnesota. Interment followed at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, in Red Lake. Gary was born October 11, 1976, in Red Lake. He passed away October 4, 2010, in Mahnomen, Minnesota.

    Gary was raised and educated in Red Lake and Redby, Minnesota. He attended schools in Wahpeton and Red Lake Tribal College. In 1998 he received a certificate in Heavy Equipment. In 200, he moved to Eveleth and took welding courses at Eveleth Community College. He married in 2001, and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and later became medically discharged. He and his wife then moved back to Bemidji. He recently received a degree in carpentry from Northwest Technical College. For the last month he was working at Crystal Sugar in Crookston. He enjoyed fishing, working on cars and car stereo systems, building things and spending time with friends and family. He liked to joke around and had a funny sense of humor and was well liked by all. (Red Lake Nation News, October 15, 2010)
