Oneidas present $1M check to Smithsonian museum

The Oneida Indian Nation has given another $1 million to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian in Washington.

The presentation last week by Oneida Nation Representative Ray Halbritter marks the seventh $1 million donation to the museum since the central New York tribe made a $10 million pledge in 2004.

Halbritter said that even in tough economic times, the Oneidas feel it’s important to preserve their history and to teach future generations.

The American Indian museum has on display a 19-foot bronze statue depicting the friendship during the Revolutionary War between the Oneidas and the colonists.
