Wild rice harvest alive at Bois Forte museum

Tower, Minnesota (AP) 8-09

Glimpses of the 1936 wild rice harvest are currently on display at the Bois Forte Heritage Museum on the grounds of the Fortune Bay Resort Casino.

The exhibit called “Wild Rice Moon” includes black and white photographs from the 1920s and 1930s that depict summertime activities of children of Indian Island near Ely.

The images by Winona State College professor Robert Reed show members of the Boshey family during the wild rice harvest on Hula Lake and at the Boshey summer camp on Indian Island.
