Standing Rock Sioux get casino loan

The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe is getting a $30 million loan from a Minnesota tribe to upgrade its casino complex in south central North Dakota.

The tribe will use the money for such things as more hotel rooms, an indoor pool and underground parking at Prairie Knights Casino and Lodge . Construction is set to begin in September and take about 11/2 years.

The money is part of $86 million in economic development loans the Shakopee Mdewakanton (mehd-WAH’-kuh-tuhn) Sioux is giving to three tribes, through a charitable giving program funded by profits from its casinos and other ventures.

The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe has about 11,000 members. Its reservation straddles the North Dakota-South Dakota border.
