Stockbridge-Munsee unveil $100 million project

Bowler, Wisconsin (AP) 8-07 - Plans for a $100 million gaming and resort complex in the Shawano County community of Bowler were unveiled during August by the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohican.

“This represents the ‘Next Generation of Gaming,”’ said Tribal President Robert Chicks in announcing the project.
“The new facility will help our tribe achieve even greater economic successes among a friendly, but increasingly competitive gaming market throughout Wisconsin and beyond.”

The tribe said the gaming facilities will include 1,400 slot machines, 32 table games and a bingo center, and the project also will include two restaurants, entertainment facilities, conference space and a parking garage.

Plans call for hiring about 200 more people to staff it.

Construction is to be done in two phases, with completion expected in 2009.

Tim Reed, Shawano County planning and development director, said the tribe already is the county’s largest employer and the project should be a boost to the area.
