Cloquet man pleads guilty to kidnapping son, 7

Duluth, Minnesota (AP) August 2012

A Cloquet man has pleaded guilty to kidnapping his 7-year-old son last year, telling prosecutors he “just snapped” because he was afraid he’d never see the boy again if his estranged wife gained custody.

James Leon Nordrum pleaded guilty to kidnapping and obliterating a serial number from a firearm. Prosecutors are expected to seek a sentence of about five years in prison for the 42-year-old.

Defense attorney Terri Port Wright says her client took good care of the boy during the 11 days they were in hiding. She says Nordrum and his son played games and had fun together.

A Duluth News Tribune report ( ) says Nordrum and the boy were found in a cabin on Lost Lake, on the Fond du Lac Indian Reservation within St. Louis County.
