Man sentenced in assault on 3 federal officers

Cheyenne, Wyoming (AP) July 2012

A Shoshone tribal member accused of assaulting three federal law-enforcement officers on the Wind River Indian Reservation has been sentenced to 10 months in prison.

Federal prosecutors say 30-year-old Russell James Ute also was sentenced to two years of supervised release, with the first six months to be served at the Casper Residential Re-Entry Center.

Prosecutors say the officers were investigating a report of a disturbance at a home in February when they were assaulted.

Ute was ordered to pay a $1,000 special assessment and restitution for the officers’ injuries. Prosecutors said that the amount of restitution will be determined later.
