ND man sentenced for breaking into Mandaree house

Minot, North Dakota (AP) April 2011

A North Dakota man has been sentenced to nearly two years in prison for a burglary on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation.

Toby Young Bear is accused in federal court of breaking into a house in April 2010 and setting fire to it. In exchange for pleading guilty to burglary, prosecutors dropped a charge of arson.

Court documents say Young Bear was found passed out behind the wheel of a car about 100 yards from Cheryl Fox’s house in Mandaree. Police found several items in the car that belonged to Fox, including a computer, flat screen TV, projector and chair.

U.S. District Judge Daniel Hovland ordered Young Bear to serve 21 months in prison, with credit for time already served, and pay back more than $15,000.
