Man pleads guilty to fleeing and child abuse

Rapid City, South Dakota (AP) January 2011

A Rosebud man was sentenced to 33 months in prison for resisting arrest and endangering children while fleeing from police in his vehicle.

Prosecutors said two of the five children in Joseph WilliamsÂ’ car were injured when he crashed while trying to get away from tribal police on the Rosebud Indian Reservation.

Twelve days later prosecutors said he ran away on foot when police tried to arrest him.

The 22-year-old Williams pleaded guilty to a count of child abuse and one of resisting or impeding a federal officer. Other charges were dismissed in a plea agreement.
