Meeting set on Indian farmers lawsuit settlement

Bismarck, North Dakota (AP) November 2010
American Indian farmers and ranchers can get information on a class action lawsuit settlement with the federal government during a meeting in Bismarck.

The Nov. 22 meeting is scheduled at United Tribes Technical College. It will be conducted by the lead plaintiffs and their attorneys in the Keepseagle v. Vilsack lawsuit, which alleged that Indian farmers were denied farm loans.

United Tribes says the meeting will include a briefing session about provisions of the settlement and the claims process.

The settlement calls for the federal government to pay $680 million in damages to thousands of Indian farmers and ranchers nationwide.
