A major housing project on the Fort Berthold Reservation is under way.

Tribal and community leaders broke ground during late June for the “200+” homes initiative. Its goal is 210 homes in districts across the reservation.

Tribal Councilman Mervin Packineau said the project is a “dream come true” for tribal residents who could not afford homes.

Tribal Chairman Marcus Levings said earlier that $9 million in federal stimulus money would be used to improve housing, roads and water systems.
