Tribal Chinook salmon season extended

Portland, Oregon (AP) 10-08

A larger than expected run of fall Chinook salmon has extended the Columbia River Treaty Tribes fishery through the end of the week.

The tribes say the run of salmon called “upriver bright Chinook” is expected to surpass 200,000 fish at Bonneville Dam.

The Nez Perce, Umatilla, Warm Springs and Yakama tribes are extending the fall fishery until Friday to allow commercial sales.

Tribal fishermen are selling their daily catch of Chinook, coho and steelhead at various points along the Columbia River banks including Marine Park in Cascade Locks and Celilo, east of The Dalles.
