Duzen, Jean Livingston Van: Walking On

Paonia, Colorado

Gravesite services were held for JEAN LIVINGSTON VAN DUZEN, 85, on May 23, at the Bethlehem Cemetery in Paonia. Jean was born June 12, 1926, in Detroit, Michigan. She passed away May 18, 2012, at her residence in Paonia.

Jean followed in her father’s footsteps and became a medical doctor, graduating from the University of Michigan Medical School. She moved to Tuba City, Arizon, in 1953, to work in the hospital on the Navajo Reservation. She stayed there until her retirement in 1980. After retirement she enjoyed life on the farm she purchased in Paonia. Jean dedicated her life to the Indians she served in Tuba City. Her care for the expecting mothers and newborn infants on the reservation led to major medical improvements in the lives of many of the reservation’s residents. (Navajo Times, June 7, 2012)
