Memorial services were held for JOSEPH HARVEY YOUNG, 69, on September 30. Joseph was born November 10, 1941, in Tacoma, Washington. He passed away September 24, 2011, at his home after a 3 year battle with cancer.
   
Joseph was a member of the Yakama Nation and attended school at White Swan and Marquette High Schools. After school he joined the U.S. Air Force. While stationed in California, he began his career in law enforcement as a military policeman. After moving back to Toppenish, Washington, he became the Yakama Nation Chief of Police, the Benton County Police Chief and the head of the Yakama Legends Casino's Security Department. Joe loved to hunt and fish. Joe had lead the way for expanding the interpretation of the Yakama Treaty of 1855, fighting for hunting and fishing rights in the Ceded Area of the Yakama Reservation.
