Redheart, Jesse D. II U.S. Navy

IDAHO, Chaweetwa – Funeral services were held for JESSE D. REDHEART, II, on October 29, 2010, at Pi-Nee-Waus in Lapwai, Idaho. Interment followed at Red Bear Cemetery in Lenore, Idaho. Jesse was born November 7, 1926.

    Jesse enlisted in the US Navy in 1944, at the age of sixteen with some friends by lying about his age. He went to boot camp at the navy training station in San Diego, California, and served on the USS Niagara (APA-87) and the USS LST-683. He was honorably discharged in 1946, having achieved the rank of Seaman 1st Class. As a young man he traveled the rodeo circuit to various places throughout the United States to participate in the Saddle Bronc and bull riding winning various medals and buckles. Jesse and his brothers started the Spalding drum and taught their children and grandchildren to sing, as well as going the pow-wow trail often. Among his many accomplishments throughout his life he was featured in the Wild World of Animals; a Coke commercial; a documentary for a Japanese film company throughout Montana, Idaho, and Washington covering the Nez Perce trail on horseback.
